OG Kush - The West Coast Reference Strain

OG Kush is the cultivar that defined the modern American cannabis menu. Of murky parentage but generally accepted as a Chemdawg x Lemon Thai x Hindu Kush cross stabilized in Florida and California in the early-to-mid 1990s, OG Kush is the genetic foundation of GSC, Headband, Sour Diesel-adjacent crosses, Bubba Kush, and dozens of other heavy-hitting hybrids that built West Coast cannabis culture.

01 · TL;DR

TL;DR

OG Kush is an indica-dominant hybrid (~75I/25S). THC typically 19–26%. Dominant terpenes: myrcene, limonene, caryophyllene, with a distinctive earthy-pine-citrus aroma described as "skunk-fuel." Effects: heavy body relaxation, mood lift, appetite, sleep-leaning at higher doses. Available at Greenleaf Wellness in flower, pre-rolls, vape, and concentrate.

Lineage and history

Lineage and history

OG Kush emerged from a Florida grower's clone cuts in the early 1990s, traveled west through the Bubba and Reservoir circles in Los Angeles, and became the parental backbone of California medical menus by 2000. The "OG" designation has been argued for decades - Original Gangster, Ocean Grown, Original - without conclusive resolution. What is not arguable is OG Kush's downstream impact: GSC, Bubba Kush, Headband, Tahoe OG, SFV OG, Triangle Kush, and most heavy-hitting hybrids since 2005 trace at least one parent to OG Kush.

Cannabinoid profile

Effect profile

Onset 5–15 minutes inhaled. Peak 30–45 minutes. Duration 2–4 hours. Reported effects: heavy body relaxation, mood lift, hunger, eventual sedation. OG Kush is a classic evening cultivar; users seeking daytime function should look elsewhere (see Sour Diesel or Blue Dream).

Who OG Kush suits

  1. 01

Evening or end-of-day users who want classic indica-dominant behavior.

  2. 02

Sleep-onset support without going to a pure indica that lands too hard.

  3. 03

Pain or inflammation users wanting myrcene-dominant terpene profile.

  4. 04

Not a first pick for daytime focus or social contexts requiring sustained attention.

Forms we stock

Flower jars (eighth, quarter, half, ounce), pre-rolls (single + pack), 510-thread carts, disposable pens, live resin and rosin concentrates. Phenotype rotates; Tahoe OG, SFV OG, and standard OG Kush cuts are common. Check the live menu.

08 · Dosing

Dosing

Inhaled: one or two pulls, wait 10 minutes. The body component lands hard at this THC range, so initial users start lower than they would for a sativa-leaning cultivar. Edibles with OG Kush extract follow the 5 mg start.
