How long do edibles take to kick in?
Standard cannabis edibles take 30–90 minutes to onset, peaking at 2–4 hours and lasting 4–8 hours total. Onset depends on stomach contents (fasting = faster), individual metabolism, and the specific product formulation. Nano-emulsion fast-onset edibles (Wana Quick, Kanha NANO 5) onset in 15–20 minutes. See microdosing cannabis.
What's the right starting dose for edibles?
For first-time consumers: 2.5 mg THC (half a standard 5 mg gummy). Wait 2 hours before redosing - this is the most-common edible mistake (taking more before the first dose hits, then experiencing 10–20 mg combined effects 90 minutes later). Experienced consumers may start at 5–10 mg.
What's the maximum edibles purchase in NV?
NV CCB caps daily edibles purchase at 100 mg total THC per day per adult 21+. A typical edibles package is 100 mg total (10 servings × 10 mg). You can buy one 100 mg package per day. See NV cannabis laws.

Why do edibles feel stronger than smoking?
Edibles are metabolized through the liver via first-pass metabolism, which converts Δ9-THC to 11-hydroxy-THC - a more potent metabolite that crosses the blood-brain barrier more efficiently. This produces a stronger, longer-lasting effect than the same THC milligrams smoked or vaped.
What if I take too much edible?
If overdosed: hydrate, eat a snack, find a safe quiet space, and wait. CBD-containing products may help reduce the THC peak (1:1 ratio products). Black peppercorn (containing β-caryophyllene) is a folk remedy with some terpene-receptor-binding plausibility. Cannabis edible overdoses are uncomfortable but not life-threatening - the LD50 (lethal dose) of THC is extraordinarily high.
Can I take edibles to work?
No - most NV employers have drug-testing policies. THC metabolites can show in urine 1–30 days after consumption (longer for heavy users) regardless of whether you feel impaired. Edibles do not exempt you from employer drug-testing rules. See employer drug-test note on the NV cannabis laws page.
Can I take edibles before driving?
No. Driving under the influence of cannabis is a Nevada DUI regardless of whether you smoked, vaped, or ate. NV law sets a per-se limit at 2 ng/mL active THC in blood - edibles can produce higher blood-THC levels than smoking due to longer absorption. Wait 6–8+ hours after edibles before driving.
Are edibles safe for sleep?
Edibles are commonly used for sleep, especially CBN+THC ratio formulations. Effects last 4–8 hours, which can be useful for staying asleep. Note: nightly THC use suppresses REM sleep and can build tolerance, so cycling on/off is recommended. See cannabis for sleep.
Can pets accidentally eat edibles?
Yes - and this is dangerous. Pets (especially dogs) can experience cannabis toxicity. Vet ER visits for cannabis ingestion increased ~4× post-legalization. Keep edibles in child-and-pet-resistant packaging in a locked or high cabinet. ASPCA Animal Poison Control: 888-426-4435. See cannabis and pets warning.
