Can tourists legally buy cannabis in Nevada?
Yes. Nevada is a recreational-legal state - adults 21+ from any state (or country) can purchase up to 2.5 oz of cannabis flower or 0.25 oz (1/4 oz) of concentrate per transaction (NRS 678D.310) with a valid government-issued ID. No NV residency required. Tourist purchases at NV dispensaries are common and legal.
Where can tourists consume cannabis in Nevada?
Only in private residences. Hotels, casinos, public sidewalks, parks, and rental cars all prohibit cannabis consumption. Las Vegas Strip and Reno casino-hotel properties enforce no-cannabis-on-premises rules through housekeeping and security. Public parks (Wingfield, Idlewild, Sparks Marina, Lake Tahoe shoreline) prohibit consumption. The only legal consumption space for tourists is a private off-property residence (vacation rental, friend's home).
Can I bring Nevada cannabis back home on a plane?
No. Reno-Tahoe International Airport (RNO) and all U.S. airports operate under federal jurisdiction - TSA and federal regulations prohibit cannabis. Domestic flights cross federal airspace. Even flying to another legal-cannabis state is federally prohibited. Consume in Nevada or leave the product behind.

Can I drive across the state line into California with my purchase?
No. Cannabis cannot be transported across state lines under federal law (21 U.S.C. § 812) - including the NV-CA border at Crystal Bay (Lake Tahoe), Verdi (I-80 W), and Bordertown (US-395 N). Both states have legalized but federal interstate transport prohibition applies. Cross-border cannabis driving is federal trafficking.
What if I'm staying at a Reno or Las Vegas casino?
Casino-hotel properties prohibit cannabis on premises under their guest agreements. Atlantis, Peppermill, Grand Sierra Resort, The Row (Eldorado/Silver Legacy/Circus Circus), Nugget Casino Resort, and similar properties enforce no-cannabis through housekeeping inspection and security response. Visitors must arrange off-property private residences for legal consumption.
What if I have a medical card from another state?
Nevada does not honor medical cards from other states for medical-tax pricing - but visitors 21+ can purchase recreationally without any card. Medical reciprocity does not extend the legal-protection to other state laws while in Nevada.
What products are best for first-time tourist visitors?
Low-dose products: 5 mg THC gummies, microdose tinctures (1–2.5 mg per dose), or low-dose vape pens. These give predictable, mild effects. Avoid 100 mg edibles or full-dose products if you're new - the dose is too high for first-timers and effects last 4–8 hours. See first-time visiting a dispensary NV and microdosing cannabis.
What's the tax on cannabis at NV dispensaries?
Nevada applies a 10% retail excise tax + 15% wholesale tax + Washoe County sales tax on top of menu pricing. Out-the-door prices typically run 25–30% above the listed item price. See shop page for current menu pricing.
