Lineage and history
Durban is a true landrace - meaning the seedline was selected by environmental and farmer pressure in the original equatorial latitude (29° S, near the Indian Ocean coast) over generations, not bred deliberately in a grow room. The plant adapted to long warm days, finishing outdoors with a relatively short flowering window for a sativa (8–9 weeks). Mel Frank brought seeds to the US in the 1970s; Dutch Passion stabilized the line for European cultivation in the 1980s. Most modern Durban Poison flowers are descendants of those Dutch Passion stabilizations.
