What's the difference between live resin, live rosin, wax, shatter, and badder?
Live resin uses a hydrocarbon (butane/propane) extraction on fresh-frozen flower - fuller terpene preservation, post-purge residual-solvent-tested. Live rosin uses heat + pressure on fresh-frozen ice-water hash - solventless, premium price, cleanest method. Wax/budder/badder are texture variations of butane hash oil (BHO). Shatter is the glass-clear translucent form of BHO. All NV-licensed concentrates are tested for residual solvents, heavy metals, pesticides, and microbials.
How much concentrate can I buy in Nevada in one transaction?
NV CCB caps adult-use concentrate at 0.25 oz (1/4 oz, about 7 grams) per transaction under NRS 678D.310 (effective January 1, 2024). Flower and concentrate carry separate limits - you can buy up to 2.5 oz of flower or 0.25 oz of concentrate per transaction, not both stacked. See NV cannabis laws.
What's a dab?
A "dab" is a small dose of concentrate (typically 25–50 mg) heated on a hot surface and inhaled as vapor. Dabbing equipment includes a dab rig (specialized water pipe), a banger (quartz heat surface), a torch (butane), and a dab tool. E-rigs (Puffco Peak, Dr. Dabber Switch) replace torches with electric heating. Effects onset in seconds, peak in 10–15 minutes, last 1–3 hours.

What's the right dab temperature?
Low-temp (450–550°F / 232–288°C): preserves terpenes, smoother hit, more flavor. Medium-temp (550–650°F): balanced flavor and vapor. High-temp (650°F+): less flavor, more vapor, harsher, can degrade cannabinoids. Most connoisseurs prefer 500–550°F. Use an IR thermometer or e-rig with temperature control for consistency.
Are concentrates more potent than flower?
Yes - significantly. Flower averages 18–32% THC. Concentrates average 60–95% THC (live resin ~75–85%, live rosin ~70–85%, distillate ~85–95%). A single dab can equal multiple flower bowls in cannabinoid content. Start with rice-grain-sized dabs if new to concentrates - overconsumption is common with high-THC concentrates.
What is hash?
Hash is one of the oldest cannabis concentrates - compressed trichomes (resin glands) from the cannabis plant. Modern types include: bubble hash / ice-water hash (cold-water mechanical separation, solventless), dry sift / kief (mechanical sifting), and traditional hash / charas (hand-rubbed). Quality grades by trichome head intactness - 6-star ice-water hash melts cleanly with no plant residue.
Are solventless concentrates better than BHO?
Solventless (rosin, ice-water hash, dry sift) is favored by purists - no residual-solvent risk, often retains fuller terpene profile, premium price tier. BHO (butane hash oil, including wax/shatter/badder) is more affordable and can be excellent quality when properly purged. NV CCB requires residual-solvent testing on all BHO products. The "better" choice depends on budget and flavor preference, not safety - both are tested.
Can I make my own concentrates at home?
No for hydrocarbon extractions (butane, propane) - it is illegal under NV law and dangerous (explosion risk). Solventless methods like dry sift or ice-water hash can be made at home with cannabis you legally own (1 oz limit). Personal-use rosin pressing (heat + pressure on flower) is legal in NV from your legally-owned flower. Selling any home-made concentrate is illegal without a CCB license.
What's the storage life of concentrates?
Properly stored concentrates last 6–18 months. Store in: silicone or glass containers (not parchment long-term), cool dark place, airtight. Refrigeration is fine for live resin/live rosin (preserves terpenes) but always bring to room temp before opening (condensation = degradation). Distillate is the most shelf-stable - minimal terpenes to oxidize.
