CBG (Cannabigerol) - The "Mother Cannabinoid" Explained
CBG (cannabigerol) is the non-psychoactive cannabinoid that biologically precedes both THC and CBD inside the cannabis plant - sometimes called the "mother cannabinoid" because it's the precursor molecule that the plant enzymes convert into other cannabinoids during maturation. CBG-rich products are emerging as a distinct category at Nevada dispensaries. We carry CBG-dominant tinctures and ratio products at Greenleaf Wellness - see the tinctures hub and shop page.

What is CBG?
Cannabigerol (CBG) is a non-intoxicating cannabinoid that exists in low quantities (typically 1% or less) in mature cannabis flower. CBGa (the acidic precursor) is synthesized in the cannabis plant and is then enzymatically converted into THCa, CBDa, or CBCa during flower maturation - meaning by harvest, most plants have very little CBG left. To produce CBG-rich products, breeders developed cultivars that carry mutations preventing the enzymatic conversion, leaving the plant with CBG levels of 6–15%.
What the research suggests
CBG research is younger than THC and CBD research. Preliminary studies (mostly preclinical animal and in-vitro) suggest CBG may have anti-inflammatory and neuroprotective properties. CBG binds CB1 and CB2 receptors with mild affinity and may modulate other receptor systems. Human clinical research is sparse - meaning CBG product claims should be read with skepticism. See cannabinoids explained for the receptor system context.

Honest expectations
CBG is non-psychoactive - it doesn't produce a high. Claims of "CBG energy" or "CBG focus" are not yet supported by solid clinical evidence. CBG users typically describe a subtle alertness or wellness effect that may simply be the absence of THC sedation from a typical cannabis product. If you want a daytime non-psychoactive cannabis option, CBG products are reasonable to try - but treat the marketing claims as preliminary. See tolerance break if you stack CBG with regular THC use.
